Googlemail Gmail - using your googlemail account effectively
(This site is in no way affiliated with, endorsed by or associated with googlemail. We are just huge fans of the service they offer!)
Welcome to gmailinfo.com. If you are looking to get yourself a gmail, or googlemail email address, click on the create account link in the bar to the right hand side of the page.
Here's how I use my googlemail account to keep on top of the 500+ emails a day that I get falling into my inbox. First of all, it's worth deciding whether you want googlemail as your primary email, or whether you just want to use googlemail as a convenient way of sorting all the emails you get from a variety of senders and with a variety of subjects.
What I am going to describe here is just how I use googlemail to manage my email communications.
Since I have several internet domains, I set up email domain forwarding with my web hosting service - lunar pages - who seem to be an excellent host and with whom I have never had any problems to date and that is with over 5 years hosting with them. Email domain forwarding is quite simply a way of forwarding ALL emails sent to a named domain, to a specific email address. In my case, I forward to my main googlemail email address. So, if anyone visits any of my websites and wants to contact the website owner and just guesses at the email which can be anything@mydomain.com, I will receive the email into my googlemail inbox.
For ease of explaining how I set up the account, let's assume I have websites all about different sports and I want to keep and send emails as if from the individual sports sites.
First of all, I want to set up an email address for my golf website. Having made sure to set up email domain forwarding with my webhost, I go into the settings option within googlemail and select "accounts". In the centre of the next screen you will see the button entitled "Send mail from another address" A pop up box appears and you can choose the Senders name and the email address you now want to use from within your googlemail account. In my case I choose the sender as Admin and the new email address as admin@mygolfdomain.com.
Hit the next step button and leave the default setting of send through googlemail. Ho to next step. Click the send verification button. I usually leave the next screen open as the verification email is usually sent instantly.
Back in your googlemail inbox, you should see the email from the googlemail team. Simply copy and paste the confirmation code into the box. That's it, I am now set up to send emails from my googlemail account, but using my "admin@mygolfdomain.com" email address.
So why would that be important or even useful? Click on the multiple email accounts link at the top of the page to find out why I use my googlemail account this way
